Kumarakom bird sanctuary is spread across 14 acres of land. It is equipped with different varieties of bird species both native and migrated. It is a must do activity for people who are nature and birds lover. The best time for bird admirers to visit the sanctuary is between June and August. If you will visit during that time than you will get to see native wetland birds like Indian Darter, Little cormorant, distinct species of egrets and herons, white ibis and various species of kingfishers etc. the other breeding season is between the months of November and May where the big trunk trees and bushes become home for various migratory birds who roam far off from one place to another. The sanctuary comprises of a magnificent Vembanad lake body which fascinates many unique waterfowl like pin-tailed duck, garganey teal, spot-billed duck, birds of prey like osprey, marsh harrier, steppe eagle, etc. The bird watch tour can also take you to a dynamic boat ride to observe the regional birds like Kaipuzha Muttu, Pathiramanal, Narakathara, Thollayiram Kayal and Poothapandi Kayal. You will also get a chance to watch the local birdlife of the regional and migrants which has a number of more than hundred.
