Thailand's Fragrance in Small Groups

Accompanied by your guide, you join the quays and then board a public river bus. Along the water, you head upstream towards the historic center, on the right bank, until you reach the flower market at Pak Khlong Talat. Stroll through the fragrant aisles and immerse yourself for the first time in authentic and traditional Asia.

We set out to discover the architectural gems of Bangkok. Let us marvel at the splendor of the Grand Palace of Bangkok, built in 1782: a sumptuous complex of buildings and inner courtyards, including Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). We discover there the famous Emerald Buddha, a precious statue dating from the 14th century, at the heart of one of the most revered sanctuaries in the country.

Then, on foot, we reach Wat Pho, one of Bangkok's oldest temples, renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and elegant pavilions. We discover the impressive Reclining Buddha, an emblematic figure of the place, as well as the inner courtyards dotted with stupas and refined decorative details.

Next, we cross the river by small boat to reach Wat Arun, the famous "Temple of Dawn", standing on the right bank. Upon arrival, we can admire its spectacular central prang, finely decorated with porcelain mosaics and floral patterns that glimmer in the light.

A cruise aboard a private traditional "long-tail" boat-taxi on the Chao Praya River, one of the country's most important waterways and a vital artery of Bangkok. As we drift along the water, we discover the "Venice of the Orient," between peaceful klongs, stilt houses and small temples hidden along the banks.

Continuation with the visit of the Wat Bang Kung (Kai Bang Kung), commonly called the Banyan Tree Temple, since its chapel was covered by the roots and branches of a banyan tree. In its gardens, we can notably observe life-size representations of wrestlers, commemorating the Battle of Ayutthaya between Thailand and Burma at the end of the 13th century.

After lunch, we head out to discover the historic center of Ayutthaya. We explore in particular the Wat Mahathat, a major temple dating from the late 14th century, famous for the Buddha head entwined in the roots of a tree, which has become one of the site's symbols.

The visit continues to the Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, a former royal temple and the largest in the ancient capital, recognizable by its elegant aligned chedis that testify to the former grandeur of the kingdom.

Finally, we discover the Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, renowned for its impressive reclining Buddha and peaceful atmosphere, offering a beautiful conclusion to this immersion in the heart of Siam's history.

We start this day in Chiang Rai by discovering the extraordinary Wat Rong Khun, better known as the "white temple". Created by Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, this site blends Buddhist architecture and contemporary art through surprising frescoes and numerous symbols inspired by Buddhism and popular culture. Its brilliant white gives it an almost surreal atmosphere.

Continuation towards the Wat Rong Sua Ten, the famous "blue temple", imagined by a disciple of Chalermchai. Its deep blue hues, its nagas sculptures and its immense Buddha give it an atmosphere both mystical and modern.

We end the day at Wat Huay Pla Kang, known for its immense white statue representing Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. Its nine-story pagoda offers a beautiful view over the countryside and surrounding rice fields.

From the small local port, we board a water taxi for approximately one hour of navigation on the Mekong waters, offering beautiful panoramas of the villages and landscapes lining the river.

We then continue our journey along the banks to a viewpoint overlooking the Mekong and the impressive casino complex with Sino-Roman style built on the Laotian bank.

Visit of the remarkable Opium Museum a modern museum built on a hillside overlooking the Mekong valley. Through immersive and documented exhibitions, the site traces the history of the opium trade in Asia, the influence of the Golden Triangle and the economic and social consequences related to this culture. A fascinating visit that allows you to better understand the complex history of this border region.

On the way back, we make stops in several small villages of the Yao and Akha communities, settled in the mountains of northern Thailand.

If you wish, we can also stop in a Padaung community, a branch of the Karenni people originally from neighboring Myanmar, some of whose women wear the famous golden spiral neck rings that give the impression of elongating the neck.

This visit remains, however, very particular and sometimes raises questions among travelers. Some see it as a form of intrusive tourism, while others consider that these visits also make it possible to generate essential income for refugee communities living often in modest conditions. We therefore prefer to leave everyone free to choose, in full conscience, whether or not they wish to discover this village.

Stop at Bo Sang, the umbrella village, famous throughout Thailand for the handcrafted manufacturing of its Sa paper umbrellas. This craft, introduced from Burma over a century ago by a monk, is what the village is renowned for today.

We visit the manufacturing center where several artisans continue this traditional know-how, from the creation of the bamboo structure to the delicate painting of the colorful patterns that adorn the umbrellas.

You then leave the city center to gain elevation heading towards the Doi Suthep temple, perched on the mountain slopes at approximately 1,200 meters altitude. A true symbol of Chiang Mai, this magnificent Buddhist temple offers an atmosphere filled with serenity and spirituality, where statues, sanctuaries and bells guide the faithful and visitors in a moment of contemplation.

On the way, a stop at Wat Pha Lat, a more discreet temple nestled in the forest, appreciated for its peaceful setting and almost exclusive atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

This morning, you set off on a bicycle tour to discover Chiang Mai, nicknamed the "Rose of the North". Starting from the famous Tha Phae Gate, with the Doi Suthep mountains as your backdrop, you quickly leave the main roads to slip into the small streets and traditional alleyways of the city.

You will discover numerous ancient temples, monks walking through the city, bustling markets and the daily life of locals, particularly that of artisans from mountain communities going about their activities as we cycle past them, under their curious eyes, through their neighborhood.

In the late afternoon, you set off for a traditional cooking class in English, organized in the countryside, outside Chiang Mai, in an old Lanna style house. In a friendly atmosphere, you discover the basics of Thai cuisine and learn to balance the emblematic flavors: spicy, sweet, salty and tangy.

Throughout the session, you prepare several classic recipes, before tasting your creations on site.

Arrival at the elephant sanctuary nestled in the heart of the tropical valley.

After a short walk through nature, we prepare the fruits intended for the elephants before setting off to meet them. You will be able to feed them and interact with them in an environment that respects their well-being, while learning about their history and behavior through the guide's explanations.

You will then watch the elephants bathe in the river and have the opportunity to brush them in a particularly peaceful natural setting.

In the afternoon, to refresh yourself, you enjoy a peaceful descent of the Mae Wang river aboard a traditional bamboo raft. Guided by a local boatman, the raft glides gently with the flow of water, offering a calm and contemplative way to discover the surrounding landscapes.

At the leisurely pace of the current, you cross through lush nature between forests, rice fields and wild riverbanks. A simple and relaxing activity, ideal for ending the day gently.

Head to the local islands of Ao Nang for a day of discovery: snorkeling, exploration of small paradise islands, with stops on isolated beaches (Koh Poda, Koh Tup, Chicken Islands). Then set sail to the main beach of Koh Poda for a buffet dinner of local specialties at sunset, away from mass tourism.

You'll find all kinds of Thai and Chinese specialties for dinner.
