What criteria is the LGBTQ+ Danger Index based on?
The LGBTQ+ Danger Index was created by the couple Asher & Lyric, authors specializing in safe travel. To accomplish this monumental task, they conducted an in-depth examination of the laws and LGBTQ+ rights of more than 200 countries for which data is available.
Updated annually, the danger index is based on 10 factors relating to the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ people:
- The legalization of same-sex marriage,
- Legal protections against discrimination in the workplace,
- Constitutional and legal protections against anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination,
- The criminalization of hate-based violence,
- The recognition of adoption,
- The general attitude of each country's inhabitants towards LGBTQ+ people (based on the Gallup world survey),
- The degree of legal recognition granted to transgender people,
- The prohibition or otherwise of same-sex relationships,
- Laws on propaganda/morality,
